Camilla Bliss
Test Card, 2020
Glazed ceramic and tapestry
This work is based on BBC's television 'Test Card F' - the depiction of a young girl and clown that could be seen at night when no programmes were being broadcast. Exploring the lucid space between our conscious and unconscious being, it investigates our relationship to technology and the space our minds enter when we are engaging with digital devices. Over-saturation of technology can lure us into alternative worlds as we disconnect from our physical surroundings. Similarly, we can fall into a meditative mindset through the repetitive action of needlepoint, as an image is built up through pixelated threads, or when coiling clay.
